Biography

Harry Goldson began his musical career early-on as a teenager in Chicago, playing with the many of that city's early jazz legends. From these roots he went on to become a part of the big band scene. Even at such a young age, Harry already was regarded as one of the top reedmen in the country, touring and being featured with such names as Del Courtney, Jan Garber, Jess Stacey, Bill Russo, Claude Thornhill and Chuck Foster.

However, it seemed that he was destined to pursue another vocation outside of music. The Korean War intervened, and after a stint in the army, Harry decided to forgo the jazz scene, return to school and embark upon what would become a highly successful career in corporate finance and banking. It wasn't until some forty years later when he was into his sixties that he took his horn out of its case and began playing jazz once again.

Harry says that music is now more fun than ever, because now he is playing what he wants to play in a way he thinks it should sound. And what a sound it is! Music flows from his clarinet like pure velvet... caressing every note... every phrase... creating an intimacy between himself and the listener that has become a hallmark of Harry's inimitable style of jazz.

Harry currently resides with his wife, Piper, in Suttons Bay, Michigan.
